Calling On Yahweh's EVERLASTING Name - 1

Subject:  6 Bible Statistics Graph - Importance of Yahweh's EVERLASTING Name

In this coming week, we are going to start a new topic on Yahweh's Everlasting Name.

  • In Topic 4, we looked at "This is My Name FOREVER"
  • In Topic 5, we looked at "Blessed be the Name of God FOREVER"
  • For Topic 6, we will look at "Calling on Yahweh's EVERLASTING Name"
Hopefully in these 3 sequential series of Topics, you can see the importance of the 'eternal' nature of God's Name.

Yahweh's Name is not like any name.
Yahweh's Name is an Everlasting Name.

When we call on God, we are calling on God's Everlasting Name.

In the following days, we will see examples of prophets and men of God consciously calling on God's Name, paying special attention to the 'everlasting' nature of Yahweh.

For today, I will post 6 Bible statistics Graphs for you to have a general overview again on the significance of God's Name - Yahweh.

The following 6 sets of words are very important to our present study. From now on, whenever you come across these words in your Bible, highlight them.  You will find that you will see these words appearing on every page in your Bible.

After serving Yahweh God for 25 years, I have now come to realize the significance of the Name of God, Yahweh in the Bible.

Just looking at the following 6 statistics graph will give you a lot of insights about God's mind as He reveals His Name to you in the different books of the Old Testament.

1.  Yahweh - the most frequent noun in the Bible - 6828X

So far in our studies, we have seen that the word "Yahweh" is the most frequent noun in the Bible.  The main focus of the Bible is "Yahweh".

We have seen that the most occurrence is in the Book of Psalms.  Then it is followed by the Book of Jeremiah.  Do you know why Jeremiah emphasizes on "Yahweh"?   Meditate on this. :)

2.  I am Yahweh - 207X

Whenever God says something of great significance and requiring special attention, He reveals Himself as "I am Yahweh".  Can you feel the heart beat of God as to how much He wants us to know Him as Yahweh?

Last year, when I discovered these words spoken by Yahweh God, "I am Yahweh", this revelation drew me to love Him and His Name more and more.  There are so many riches in this simple phrase.  We will need to spend a few weeks to study on this topic this year if God willing.

The most occurrence of this phrase is in Ezekiel.  Do you know why?  The rebellious Israelites in exiles were forgetting God's Name.  Ezekiel's message kept drawing them to remember "they will know that I am Yahweh."

Do you also notice that "I am Yahweh" occurs frequently in the Book of Leviticus. This should draw you all the more to study the book of Leviticus with new insights.  What we often thought was a boring book will turn out to be a very exciting book of God's revelation of His Name.

3.  Name of Yahweh - 87X

While "Yahweh" appears the most in the book of Psalm, the phrase "Name of Yahweh" occurs also the most in the book of Psalm.  Can you guess the reason why?

4.  My Name - 52X

Yahweh God sometimes puts emphasis on 'My Name' because He wants us to call on "His Name" and not just call on Lord or God in prayer.

If you take time to look at all the references to "My Name", you will be able to see where God puts the significance regarding His own Name.  Again, if God willing, we will do an in-depth study on this in the future.

5.  My Holy Name - 10X

To emphasize the importance of the holiness of His Name, God specifically says "My Holy Name".

The most occurrence is found in the Book of Ezekiel as Ezekiel is dealing with the rebellious Israelites who had polluted themselves in grievous sins, so God is reminding of His holiness to draw them back to Yahweh God.

6.  Your Name - 94X

It is not surprising that "Your Name" has the most occurrence  in the book of Psalms.  While the psalmists often call on Yahweh in prayer, they are also concerned to pray to God concerning Yahweh's Name, thus "Your Name" is usually a focal point of their prayers.

Do you ever pray to God about "Your Name . . ."?  In the Lord's prayer, Jesus instructs us to pray "Hallowed be Your Name."

These statistics reveal to us the important emphasis God places on His Name.  When we enter into prayer, all the more, we must call on God's Name, Yahweh. This week we will call on God's Everlasting Name ever more deeply from our hearts.

BLESSED be the Shem of Yahweh FOREVER – 5

Subject: Blessed be God's Glorious Name Forever

Psalm 72:18-19
Blessed be Yahweh God, the God of Israel, who only does wondrous things. And blessed be His glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

This is
Solomon’s Psalm reflecting also David's prayer.

The
Shem of God is important again, for in the Glorious Name, Yahweh, God acts and does wondrous things.

What kind of wondrous things?
  • The context of Psalm 72 talks about wondrous things surrounding the Kingdom of God.
  • David and Solomon pray for the fulfillment of the Kingdom of God.

In comparison, our prayers are so feeble today because our prayers surround our little world
- my family, my job, my kids, my studies, my feelings, my health, God granting me good weather....etc. It is not to say that we cannot pray for these things, but we need to expand our horizon and pray for these things within the context of advancing the Kingdom of God.

There is a progressive manifestation of God's Kingdom
from the times of the OT to the new heaven and new earth in the future.
  • David and Solomon looked forward to the Messianic Kingdom.
  • Through the life of Christ in the NT, the Messianic Kingdom was brought near to us.
  • We are living in the Church age where we too have a part to advance God's Kingdom.
  • Let's pray the Lord's prayer: "Thy Kingdom come."

1.  The God of this Kingdom is Yahweh.

2.  God desires to manifest His Kingdom through His Church today.

3.  We have a mission. We need to bring back God's Name & Kingship into the Church, for through the Glorious Name of Yahweh, God reigns and reveals His glory in His Church.

Please take note again that this prayer in Psalm 72 ends with this important phrase:
Blessed be His Glorious Name forever.

This Is My Name FOREVER - 5

SUBJECT: To make for Himself an EVERLASTING NAME

God is eternal and He desires to make Himself known through His Name to all generations.

There is no name more worthy than God’s Everlasting Name.

God’s Shem is Olam.

Isaiah 63:12

That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make for Himself an Everlasting Name.

  • The context of Isaiah 63 is talking about the Exodus events.
  • Throughout Exodus, God puts much emphasis on His Name.

How did God make for Himself an everlasting Name?

1. When God called Moses, what did God give to Moses?

    The Name of God, Yahweh.

2. What was Moses instructed to say to Pharoah?

   The Name of God, Yahweh.

3. How did God explain the meaning of Yahweh to Moses?

    Yahweh is an Everlasting Name.

4. How was Moses going to deliver the Israelites from Egypt?

Again it is God's Name, Yahweh.
    Tell them "I am Yahweh".
This phrase repetitively occurs 62X in the Exodus events.

5. How did God reveal Himself to Moses?

By proclaiming His Name: Yahweh, Yahweh.

So in the 40 years of the wilderness journey, God progressively reveals His EVERLASTING NAME to Moses and the Israelites.

** God makes for Himself an EVERLASTING NAME **

KNOW THIS: All revelations are hidden in The EVERLASTING NAME

Application:  Call on God's Everlasting Name and let Yahweh God reveal Himself to you also.

This Is My Name FOREVER - 2

SUBJECT: This is My Memorial to All Generations

Today, I have an important message to share with you.

Exodus 3:15
Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Yahweh God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My Name Forever, and this is My MEMORIAL TO ALL GENERATIONS.’

God is revealing to Moses 2 important insights regarding His Name:

1. This is My Name FOREVER.

2. This is My MEMORIAL to all generations.

God is telling Moses:

1.  Yahweh's Name is FOREVER

2.  Yahweh is the name that the children of Isarel shall call Him from generation to generation.

Come, let's call on God's Name in prayer together.
  • We have the responsibility to declare God’s Name today.
  • We also need to declare God’s Name to our children.
  • And in turn, our children will declare God’s Name to the next generation.
  • God’s Name is to be remembered down through the ages.

This Is My Name FOREVER - 1

SUBJECT: Yahweh is God's Eternal Name

"This Is My Name FOREVER" - God Himself says these words to Moses.

I remember singing this phrase years ago in my teens and only today, I understand the meaning of these words.  This is why it is important for us to study the SHEM of God.

This week we will explore an important revelation God wants to reveal to us through His SHEM. So important is this revelation that we will devote one week to study this important character of God.

Exodus 3:15

Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Yahweh God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My Name FOREVER, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

When God says “This is My Name”:
  • ‘this’ is referring to His Name Yahweh.
  • He gives us His Name at the beginning of the verse.
Exodus 3:15a “ יהוה, God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. …”
  • FOREVER means everlasting or eternal.
God’s Name has always been and always will be “Yahweh”, unchanged.

The phrases, “God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob” refer to the covenant God made with Abraham. The covenant is reaffirmed with Isaac and Jacob. The covenant includes the promise of a great name, a great nation, a blessing to all the nations, an everlasting Kingdom and a land to possess forever.

Tomorrow we will learn another important insight from this verse. Stay tuned.

'My Name" - 5

Subject: "'My Holy Name"

Ezekiel 39:7 … So will I make My Holy SHEM known … and the nations will know that I Yahweh am the Holy One in Israel.

  • These words are spoken by God Himself, the Holy One in Israel.
  • God's SHEM is inseparable from His Being. He is Holy. His SHEM is holy. He makes His holiness known to you through His SHEM.
  • To call on God's Name in prayer is to be conscious that we are calling on His Holy Name.

God feels very strongly about His Holy SHEM that He repeats this phrase "My Holy Name" 12X in the Bible.

- 8X in Ezekiel.
- 3X in Leviticus
- 1X in Amos

God’s Inner Being is Holy.
  • When I call on God’s Name in prayer, I am facing a holy God.
  • I experience a powerful conviction of sins.
  • I pray for His cleansing through the power of His forgiveness.

Let us continue to call on God's Holy Name in prayer.

'My Name" - 4

Subject: Yahweh Yahweh - God manifests His Divine Character through His SHEM

  • At another time, Moses was instructed to chisel another two new stone tablets to receive the 10 commandments from God again.

  • What did God do?
  • Yahweh God came down in the cloud and proclaimed "His NAME" in front of Moses.

Can you see how God places tremendous importance on His SHEM.

This time, what does God want to reveal about His SHEM?

Exodus 34:5-7

Then Yahweh came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed His NAME, Yahweh. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “Yahweh, Yahweh, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

Can you now see how God strongly feels about His SHEM?

  • He proclaims His SHEM to Moses again for the second time.
  • This time He proclaims His SHEM twice in front of Moses.

Why does God do that?

  • Whenever God says a name twice, He wants to say something EXTRA significant to grab our attention.
  • This time, God repeats not a man’s name twice, but His own name twice.
  • God is giving us important revelations of His nature and character.

1.  Our human names have no revelation.

2.  God’s SHEM Yahweh is self-revelatory.

God's SHEM progressively reveals His Divine character: He is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love, faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, forgiving, punishing sins.

Our God is too wonderful for words.

  • His deep character draws me to want to call on His Name in prayer more and more.

  • I experience His compassion and everlasting love when I call on His Name Yahweh.

3/20/14

'My Name" - 3

SUBJECT: I will proclaim "My Name"

One time, Moses made a request to God: “Show me your Glory”. Exodus 33:18

Can you guess how God showed His glory to Moses?
  • You would have never guessed.
  • God showed His glory by proclaiming His Name to Moses.

Exodus 33:19b “…I will proclaim
MY NAME, YAHWEH in your presence…”

  • Can you see how strongly God feels about His SHEM, Yahweh?
  • God could have done something else to show His glory.
  • God chose to use His SHEM to reveal His glory.

Let’s look at the entire verse of Exodus 33:18-19:

Then Moses said, "I pray Thee, show me Thy glory!" And Yahweh said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim My SHEM, Yahweh, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

1.  God’s glory is focused in His SHEM, Yahweh.

2.  Yahweh’s glorious SHEM reveals His goodness, mercy and compassion.

This truly motivates us to call on God's SHEM, Yahweh, in prayer.

"And blessed be his glorious SHEM for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen." Psa 72:19

'My Name" - 2

SUBJECT: He has "known My Name"

God desires that we know His Name.

If we truly know His Name and call upon Him, He will answer us.

Psalm 91:14 – 15

“… I will set him securely on high, because he has known My Name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him…”

  • The OT saints often call upon God's Name in prayer because they have a good understanding of the "Name" of God.
  • You need to understand the spiritual riches in the "Name" in the Hebrew Bible.

People in OT have a different kind of understanding of "Name" than we do in our modern culture.

  • The Hebrew word for “name” is שֵם (SHEM).

  • SHEM has a much deeper meaning than just a name that we vocalize.
  • In ancient Hebrew culture, personal names mean much more than just a means of identification. They carry deep significant meaning to the person.
In our modern society, your name is your identity.
  • When people think of your name, and by associating your name from their interaction with you as a person, they have a mental picture of what you look like and what type of a person you are.
  • However, a name in itself doesn't really reveal deeper meaning of who you are.
  • For example, my full name is Rosablanca. It's a Spanish name given to me at birth, and it means 'white rose'. It's a pretty name. It doesn't mean that I am a white rose. It doesn't mean that I smell like a white rose either. It's a name that identifies who I am. “White” reminds me of “purity”, a path I pursue because of having this name.

However, in Hebrew culture, names carry significant meaning.
  • Names in Biblical times were very important as they reveal a person's character.
  • A person's name signifies a person's character, reputation, honor and glory.

“Yahweh's SHEM” carries excellence, glory, authority, majesty, holiness, goodness, and strength.

When we come to know God's Name and call on His Name, we experience His excellence, glory, authority, majesty, holiness, goodness and strength.

'My Name" - 1

This week, we are starting on the 3rd Topic: “My Name”

God invites us to call on His ‘Name”, not His Titles.

  • Titles have limitations.
  • Titles tell us what God is like but they do not reveal who He is.
  • Titles also do not inspire faith in us as titles can readily refer to pagan deities or humans.

God speaks of “My Name” in the Old Testament 52X.

God desires so much to reveal Himself through His Unique Name.

God’s Name, Yahweh, has revelations.

God gives His Name to us, not for Himself, but for our benefits.

God’s Name inspires faith in our hearts.
  •  When we call on His Name, we must have faith.
  • Prayer without faith is useless.
  • God hears and answers the prayer of faith.
